One Dead, Three Missing in Storm Surge in Preah Sihanouk

Sihanoukville: One person has died and three others are missing after a storm surge along the coast of Preah Sihanouk. Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon in an area below the so-called “Tree of Love” in the Poy Machou area of Preah Sihanouk’s Prey Nob district.

According to eyewitnesses, the surge swept five people off their feet and into the sea. Two of them were immediately rescued, and a girl was also found but died while being moved to safety. Three others are still missing. Authorities say the five people are all from the O'Oknha Heng commune in Prey Nob district.

There had been warnings about rough seas and storms along the coast. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology confirmed on Tuesday that Cambodia, particularly its coastal and lowland provinces, would experience heavy weather until early next week.
